During the November 19, 2021, meeting of the Athens Rotary Club, Chuck Smith, head baseball coach at Athens High School, spoke on the upcoming season for the Golden Eagles. Smith is entering his seventh season in Athens and spoke on the importance of chemistry in the game of baseball. This season, the team has developed the team motto 'Pick Me Up'

Smith has used the off-season to rejuvenate himself and his team. He stresses to his players about the mental toughness it takes to be a baseball player. Each person on the team has a binder full of team notes on how things should be done. Smith says it reinforces the mental toughness to help players be the best athlete on and off the field.

Smith recalled having more than 25 players go to the collegiate level of baseball after leaving his program in Athens during the last six seasons.

A fellow Rotarian asked how many games they play during a season and Smith answered the varsity team plays a total of 40 games during the spring with an additional 15 to 20 during the summer.

The Athens Rotary Club wishes nothing but the best in the upcoming season for the Golden Eagles.
